How Priory Park Singers found its voice
The beginnings of Priory Park Singers are rooted in a love of song and connection, growing over time into a choir defined by its spirit, its people, and the melodies that continue to echo through our story.

The Priory Park Singers are a Choir that formed in October 2004 and are now based at Tower Hill Methodist Church, Hessle. The Choir rose from the ashes of the Haltemprice Gilbert and Sullivan Society, which unfortunately had to cease its musical productions, due to lack of members.
Some of the former members decided to form a new singing group and eventually came up with a name Priory Park Singers.
There are now thirty members in the Choir and they perform just about every musical style imaginable.

They are led by our musical director Michael Waltham who graduated from Huddersfield University in 2002 with a BMus (hons) degree. Majored in violin and voice.
He has achieved Grade 8 violin, Grade 6 piano and Grade 6 church organ.
A former member of the RSCM MYC (Royal School of Church Music Millennium Youth Choir). He has performed concerts with the RSCM MYC throughout the UK and also on tour in the USA. Also broadcasting on television and radio with them.
He has also sung in various church choirs and various local choirs and societies (including Hessle Theatre Company, Beverley Chamber Choir and Hull Savoyards).
Michael is currently on the music team for St Marks, Anlaby Common and St Peters, Anlaby. Regularly leading the music during church services.
He attended and passed the ABCD (Association of British Choral Directors) initial choral conducting course in Leeds and was the assistant Musical Director with Priory Park Singers for a number of years. Being made Musical Director in 2016.
Gabrielle Lawtie is our accompanist, providing accomplished and responsive piano accompaniment that enhances the choir’s sound and supports singers at every stage of rehearsal and performance.
